Solar Water Heater
Solar water heating is one of the most important applications of solar energy. Solar water heater is a device that helps in heating water by using the energy from the Sun. The solar water heaters can be used in homes, nursing homes, hotels and guesthouses as an alternate of electric geyser. A total number of 1814500 LPD solar water heating systems both flat plate type and evacuated tube collector type have been installed by UREDA in various public and private buildings like hospitals, hotels, guest houses, residential buildings etc. in both private and public sector in the state of Uttarakhand.
During the year 2010-11 a total 3,79,925 (including the systems installed under JNNSM) numbers of solar water heating system (ETC type and Flate plate collector type) has been installed in the various district of Uttarakhand. UREDA has increased the total capacity of SWH installed in the state of Uttarakhand to 11,29,625 LPD, which was 7,49,700 LPD upto the year 2010. While during the year 2011-12 UREDA has added 316575 LPD Solar Water Heater System in the State. In the year 2012-13, another 520300 LPD Solar Water Heater System has been added in the State, which is 56% increase as compared to the year 2011-12.

The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM)-one of the eight missions under National Action Plan on Climate Change was launched by the Prime Minister on 11th January 2010, which is a measure initiative of government of India and state govt. to promote ecological sustainable growth while addressing India’s energy security challenge. To promote off grid applications of Solar energy (both SPV & Solar Thermal) for meeting the target set in JNNSM, UREDA has installed a various capacity Solar Water Heating System under JNNSM. The categorize benchmark has been finalized by MNRE for 2013-14 is as below.
